A big NESCBWI thanks to...

Who gave me a drawing,
Who dared to eat lunch with me on Saturday,

Who attended my class and even spoke kindly afterward,

Who shares my geeky fascination with Muppets and all things Jim Henson,

Who talked to me even after I scared her at dinner.
And thanks to the unflappable Anindita for keeping the road well paved, and to all the folks I met for the first time. I wish I could remember all your names!
Cheers!

Brooklyn Book Festival

Went down to the Brooklyn Book party on Sunday. Lots of authors and artists, but I went to meet Guy Delisle.

I have enjoyed his graphic novel travelogs so much I wish they were available when I was falling asleep in history class. I even got a drawing...

Who's the artist?

So I spend weeks remodeling the studio. New wiring, new walls, paint, home-built bookshelves. Then I move the furniture back in. And WHO gets to use it first?
My kids.
We hauled out the balsa wood, glue, knives, and sandpaper. To christen our new studio we pretended to be Industrial Light and Magic. Landspeeders, A-wings, and a most excellent x-wing were built and flown. I couldn't have planned it better myself.
And just in case anybody cares, here is a small part of the new space. We are already deep into production on our next crusade.

May the force be with you....

Mercer House

A trip to Savannah Georgia wouldn't be complete without a viewing of Mercer House. If you heard of or read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, you know this house. During my college years, I had no idea what was happening around town. Jim Williams, Billy Hansen, and John Berendt were walking through the squares interacting without anyone knowing that soon after a book and movie would completely upend the town. I miss the more sleepy Savannah, but I am glad the town is prospering again.

Chalk, chalk, and more chalk

More pictures from my trip to Savannah. This is my square at the Sidewalk Arts Festival last weekend. Here I am attempting to draw on a sidewalk. This is my best side.

Is it a frog or a monster?

Ta-Daaa! The final piece. Off to Tybee Island for lunch. More later....

SCAD

This weekend I spent at me alma-mater. Savannah College of Art and Design. Each year starting in my third year they have a Sidewalk Arts Festival. Prospective students, current students, and alumni sign up for a square in Forsythe Park. It's a great day to get together and draw, talk, and draw. I'll post more through the week, but I have a few here to get started.

You can see how some students spend time going over their design. There are prizes, after all, and everyone who participates gets a nifty T-shirt.

Off go Gungy.....

Spending the weekend here with fellow artists and writers. Somehow working amidst rocks makes me relax.
